Updated Canvas Integration

So we’ve recently updated our Canvas Integration Capability at QuickSchools, which we thought we’d share here, for those who are using (or want/hope to use) this module available on our QuickSchools App Store.

Integrate the Grades from Canvas into the QuickSchools Gradebook

Canvas is only ONE of the many Learning Management Systems (LMS) that we integrate to. And the primary goal of this integration is to easily transfer grades from the LMS Gradebook into the QuickSchools Gradebook, for purposes of creating report cards and transcripts.

Here’s a list of recent improvements to the Canvas Integration module in particular:

  • Dropdowns have been updated to our new UI, which means you can more easily search the fields while mapping.
  • You can select which academic term to be “Active”, and only the “Active” term will be synchronized.
  • Gradebook Synchronizations can now be scheduled to run nightly (or as frequently as you want)
  • Synchronization History shows the status of each synchronization attempt, along with a log file of successfully synchronized subjects/courses.

We’re Back!

It’s been over a year since our last QuickSchools blog post. Despite the silence, we’ve been hard at work, partnering with public school districts in California to expand our offering. After more than 2 years of development, we’re now ready to share the knowledge and functionality that we’ve built with the rest of our customer base – That means YOU!

In the coming months, you can expect new and expanded modules to our core offering. This includes improvements to our Gradebook and Transcripts module, just to name a few. We’ll also release new apps to our App Store. Some examples of upcoming modules / apps are listed below:

  • Counselor Notes
  • Community Service
  • Special Education
  • Tests and Assessments
  • Expanded Health / Medical
  • Phone Surveys
  • College Letters
  • Work Permits
  • Section-based Master Scheduler and Attendance
  • Course Requests

However, one major improvement that we’re excited to share is our enhanced District / Group School setup. You can now link several schools together into a district configuration, and then allow data to be shared/transferred between schools. We’ll write a separate article with more information on this.

For many years, this blog has functioned as our living and breathing support documentation site- with each new feature we roll out, we’ve always done a blog post with a quick tutorial on how to configure things and get started. However, because of our constant development and improvements, at times valuable information gets buried in the stacks. Not ideal.

New Merits App

QuickSchools has finally released a new Merits App available on our App Store:

With this app, you can allow teachers to very easily award/assign Merit Items with preset points (both Positive and Negative):

Teachers can assign Merits to students
Teachers can assign Merits to students

As an administrator, you can configure the following:

  • list of Merit Items and their corresponding positive/negative points
  • total number of merit items that can be awarded/assigned to a student on any given day
  • total number of merit points that can be applied to a student on any given day
  • initial number of points (starting points) for students at the beginning of the term
  • point floor (i.e. Merit Points can never go below the point floor for each student)

Admissions vs. Online Forms

We’re rolling out our new Online Forms app for QuickSchools in a big way this summer. You’ve probably seen many articles about it (like the ones below):

And you’ll continue to see many more improvements to the Online Forms app in the weeks to come (we’ll blog about those soon too). But how is the Online Forms app different from the Admissions module which also has an Online Forms component? So here in this article, we’ll make a comparison.

First off, let’s go over some similarities between the two modules:

  1. Both handle enrollment of new students, including inquiries.
  2. Both have an Online Forms component, for collecting data submitted online (from a public page).
  3. Both support Email Templates, to correspond with inquiries and applicants.

But that’s pretty much where the similarities end. A key thing to note here is that the Admissions module is included in all subscription plans within QuickSchools, whereas the Online Forms is a paid app. To that end, the Admission module is designed with simplicity in mind, so schools can make use of it quickly. And the Online Forms on the other hand is designed with more robustness of functionality.
