QuickSchools.com Next Generation: Out Soon!

Since last year when we launched QuickSchools.com, we’ve been observing the kinds of schools that have been using our system, and the experience schools go through as they use our system. Out of these certain patterns have emerged, and we’re understanding the market better and better every single day.

We’ve made a big conclusion, and we think this is worth sharing with you. Let’s see if you agree with the following:

  • The other school management systems available on the market are great. They’re chock-full of features, and they’ve been designed to handle everything from grades to lunches to seating arrangements.
  • Smaller schools, however, don’t need those endless lists of features. They don’t have time to set up and operate a complicated system. They do, however, have a few key activities that would benefit greatly from a system. And for those features, they want a clean & simple solution that works.
  • Finally, those other school management systems are not priced and structured for smaller schools. For example, they typically have fixed set-up costs running into the thousands of dollars. They also take weeks to set up and install. Time that smaller schools simply don’t have.

QuickSchools.com however has been perfectly structured for smaller schools, those with less than 300 students. And so this is the positioning that QuickSchools.com will take: We’re the perfect fit for smaller schools, from a pricing perspective (monthly subscriptions), a setup perspective (you can be up and running in a day) and the software perspective.

However, we’re not satisfied resting on our laurels. We’ve been hard at work going through every single step in the user experience, and we’ve been sculpting the user experience so that you have a fantastic fully-online experience with QuickSchools.com.

This is QuickSchools.com next generation – watch out for it, we’ll be making announcements shortly!

QuickSchools.com on the air

I had the opportunity to share the QuickSchools.com story on a radio interview with Business FM (BFM 89.9).

It was a great opportunity to share how QuickSchools.com applies the SaaS model (Software-as-a-Service model) towards school management, making us the first fully-online school management system.

This in turn makes our school management system accessible to millions of schools around the world.

Listen to the interview below:

We know you’ve been waiting for this: Mass Parent Communication

I’m excited to announce that QuickSchools.com willl be launching the mass parent communication tool soon. What can you do with this tool?

  • Get QuickSchools.com to automatically phone all parents, playing a pre-recorded message. Very useful if your school is closing due to snow, for example.
  • The same thing can be done using email and text messaging.
  • You can control who gets the message: All parents, parents of students from a specific class, etc.

You don’t need to install any special hardware, or hook up your phone to your computer, or anything like that. We’ve taken care of all those details. You simply use the online QuickSchools.com application.

For example, to get QuickSchools.com to automatically call-out with a recorded message, simply record the message using your computer, and upload the audio file to QuickSchools.com. Since QuickSchools.com has all the phone numbers of the parents, it can start calling-out and playing back the recorded message.

Your school pays a nominal sum for this service. For example, calling out will cost 5 cents a minute (USD).

Right now we don’t have a cool name to call this feature.  “Mass Parent Communication” is boring. If anyone has any ideas, let us know! The feature is targeted for launching in May 2009.

Security of your credit card information

Since schools pay for the monthly QuickSchools.com subscription fee with a credit card, a natural question would be how safe it is to enter the credit card number online and the Security of your credit card information.

Paying for goods and services online is very common these days, to the tune of more than USD130 billion in the US in 2006. The technology for doing this safely and securely is very well-defined.

QuickSchools.com uses RBS WorldPay as our credit card payment processor. They are part of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group, the fifth biggest banking group in the world. When you enter your credit card details, you are actually entering those details with WorldPay. And WorldPay has worked hard over the years to build the most secure system that they possibly can.

QuickSchools.com doesn’t store your credit card information, and we can’t even see the full credit card number. You’ll notice this when you enter your credit card information online. You’ll see that the browser bar will display the WorldPay address, which means you are entering your credit card securely with WorldPay.
