Emma Brown is a Rockstar Teacher!
Ms Brown teaches English & History at The Dragon Academy in Toronto, Canada. Her nomination came from a fellow parent at the school, Camille. Here’s what Camille had to say about Ms Brown.
Ms. Brown makes learning interesting, exciting and the right amount of challenging to bring out the best in every student. She really cares about each student as an individual and gives attention to their individual interests and needs. And she’s nice and patient all of the time.
Now that’s simply fantastic!
We then asked Ms Brown a few questions…
How did you get into teaching?
I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a teenager. I was always interested in sexual health education so I pursued a degree is sexual diversity studies and then went into teachers college to complete my bachelor of education. I was so grateful for the amazing teachers in my life, I wanted to have the same impact on students in the future as a teacher myself. Its been my life long dream, and the career I was meant to have.
What do you hope for your students?
I hope my students will be strong and brave critical thinkers. I hope that they will question everything they see and hear, and most importantly gain confidence in themselves to make their voice heard in this world. I hope my students will go out into the world and remember that knowledge and education are the best tools we have to change this world.
Anything you’d like to share with us? e.g. favorite moments, etc.
More than anything else, I believe in comprehensive, honest and open sexual health education and I am thankful for the Dragon Academy for giving me the chance to implement this program of sexual education into the physical education program.

You couldn’t have found a more real, helpful person than Ms. Brown! I’ve known Emma my whole life, and as the younger of the two by a few years have always looked up to her. It was no surprise to me that she went into teaching, especially teaching one of the most difficult subjects in such an open and positive way. Just ran into her at the Reference Library the other day with her students! Go Ms. Brown!
Kasia that is so kind, thankyou so much 🙂
I have known Emma all her life, and this doesn’t surprise me a bit.
Only Emma can actually be proud of teaching her students and still keep the same attitude when shes finished the day/week/year

Emma, you truly are a rockstar teacher!! Educating future generations about something as crucial as sexual health is the equivalent of giving them a first-aid survival kit to the world. Please keep up your amazing work — for their benefit, and for society’s as well!

Emma has always been a great medium between teacher and student. She truly understands how students work, how to connect with us, and how to have fun with us. There’s never a day when I look at my schedule and am disheartened or exasperated when I have a class with her. She’s informative, outgoing, and all together a wonderful person; you have my vote Emma!
that means so much to me, thankyou so much:)))

aw Lani that is so kind of you, thankyou so much for your support!
Very smart and witty teacher, deserves herself some iPad goodness..
haha, aw Thanks so much Cam!!!
Personally, I have been through a positive slew of teachers that I have completely hated, and, considering how many classes I have with Ms. Brown and how pissy I can be, my complete and utter lack of any resentment towards her is a good sign to begin with.
Add to that the fact that she makes classes fun, teaches well and reaches out to every single one of her students and you have one pretty frickin’ awesome teacher.
Congrats, Ms. Brown!
You totally deserve it, and I hope you win!
aw Anika, thankyou so much for your kindness! it means so much to have your support:))
I have had one class with Ms. Brown, and it was amazing. It was gym, but through this one class she changed my life. She was able to push me to be better than i thought i could be just by always being their and supporting me. Her teaching style was incredible, she was able to convey the normally boring and awkward information of sex ed in new and fun ways, by doing things like incorporating games, and other innovating teaching styles. Even though she no longer teaches me i know that she is always their for me, and that is something most teachers don’t have. We feel like we can relate to her because she puts in the extra effort too. I recently went on a newyork trip with the school which she helped chaperoned, she was able to keep us safe and in check when nessesary and allowed us to enjoy when time allowed, she helped make my trip all it could be, not for her own interest but for ours. Ms. Brown truly does deserve this. Good luck and thank you!
wow Ben, that is seriously so kind and means the world to me! thankyou so much for your support and always being such an incredible student! New York was totally awesome, thanks for making it such a success!:)))
