Vote Krystal Watson for QuickSchools Teacher of the Year 2012!

Help Krystal Watson win the inaugural QuickSchools Teacher of the Year awardTo all teachers out there, we salute you! QuickSchools.com is a fully-online school management system.

Krystal Watson is a Rockstar Teacher!

Ms Watson teaches Middle School Reading at Annoor Academy in Knoxville, TN. Here’s what Elisha had to say about Ms Watson in her nomination entry.

This teacher not only teaches her class, but also gives up many of her planning periods to help students who are struggling in lower grades. She handles all the special programs at the school ESL, standardized testing, Acclerated Reader, IXL, and enrichment classes. She is also on the Accreditation committee that is working toward getting our school accredited.

Ms Watson – you are awesome!

We then asked Ms Watson a few questions…

How did you get into teaching?

From the time I was a little girl I knew I would someday be a teacher.  In elementary school when someone asked what I wanted to be I said a teacher and that followed me to the present.  I had some really great teachers who made such an impact on me that I knew I wanted to be like them and follow in their footsteps.  Those teachers to this day are still my role models and I credit them with my decision to become a teacher.  In addition, to the fact my parents have always emphasized the value of education and expressed the extremely valuable role of a teacher in a student’s life.

What do you hope for your students?

My hope for my 8th grade students is that they become confident and well-rounded individuals as they proceed on to high school.  I hope that my students are well grounded and able to withstand the adversity which faces them as minorities and hold strong to their faith.  I hope they leave Annoor Academy with their head held high and are able to recognize that the future is filled with endless possibilities.  I devote my heart and soul to my students but the struggling learners have a special place there.  I spend countless hours working with these students in hopes of making a difference.  For these special students I hope they become confident and understand that they have as much potential as any other student.  It is important that these students believe in themselves and never fall victim to the put downs.  The sky’s the limit!!!

Anything you’d like to share with us? e.g. favorite moments, etc.

I would like to share that although I work hard and go the extra mile for my students so do my colleagues.  I have an excellent team of teachers and administrators that I am blessed to work with.  As a team, we do whatever it takes to ensure the students are successful and receive exactly what they need.  My colleagues have supported me through it all and without them it would be impossible to commit the time needed to each and every student I work with. I feel incredibly lucky to work and be part of an excellent and ever-changing school.

  1. Go Krystal!! We all would be lost without her, I love how much effort she puts into helping us with Reading and all of the assessments. The kids are always sad when she’s not in the library for AR class. Thanks for all you do.

  2. I’ve just gotten to know Krystal over the past year on a personal level and I know that everything she said in the interview is true to her heart, beliefs, and values. She obviously has a special gift to work in a difficult environment, yet works tirelessly to provide the best education possible for her students. Proud of you Krystal!

  3. Krystal is an amazing teacher, and I am so blessed to get to work with her and learn from her! She works so hard and really goes the extra mile. Thank you, Krystal!

  4. If you think of a devoted, sincere teacher who would do her very best for each of the students, Krystal is the one.

  5. Krystal is definitely one in a million! Of course some people may think that I am biased. Krystal is a great colleague, mentor and sister. Last year Krystal assisted me in organizing and preparing my room for the first day of the year. We spent weeks in my Classroom but it looked awesome! When school started I needed help with assessing my students. She came in and started assessing all if them. Eventually she would come in and assist my intervention students. For the longest time she developed a bond between many at Annoor Academy and did not ask for anything in return. In late October she was hired and the AR program was up and running. The kids were motivated to read and were begging for more books. Teacher Krystal spent endless days labeling the books with quiz numbers and grade levels to better accommodate the students. Today Krystal is still going over and beyond to accommodate all of her students no matter what she has to do. She is committed to all the programs that she is in charge of and also committed to a small group of students that play a large role in her daily life. She is devoted to her children at home and at school. She definitely deserves to be Teacher of the year!!!!!

  6. I am proud to be Krystal’s principal. Krystal is a very hard working, effective teacher. She has so many responsibilities within the school, and she carries all of them very well. She is cooperative, friendly, and very sweet. I love having her in the school and so does each one of her colleagues.

  9. Diane,

Teaching is never easy but I would never say it’s difficult. I absolutely love teaching and making a difference in the lives of my students. I am blessed to have established so many wonderful bonds with my students, colleagues, and friends. Just as I am blessed to call you my friend. Thanks for the kind words.

  10. Our school is truly blessed to have such a hardworking, kind and caring individual on our team. She has so many responsibilities that she has to juggle, and yet she does so beautifully. Others have said it, but it’s worth repeating that we would be lost without her. More importantly, the students she works so hard for would suffer greatly without her! She’s such a sweetheart and willing to help everyone, and just her devotion to our students are all reasons why she deserves Teacher of The Year!
Thank you Krystal for all you do. I’m glad you’re getting recognition- you truly deserve this!

  11. The school is blessed to have such a great, loving , selfless and a hard working teacher.I am especially lucky that I have Krystal to talk over my concerns about my struggling students. She is always there for me whenever I need her even though she has her hands full with so many responsibilities.I don’t know what I will do without her.
    Thanks Krystal for every thing!

  34. THE CREATION OF THE TEACHER

The Good Lord was creating teachers. It was His sixth day of ‘overtime’ and He knew that this was a tremendous responsibility for teachers would touch the lives of so many impressionable young children. An angel appeared to Him and said, “You are taking a long time to figure this one out.”

“Yes,” said the Lord, ” but have you read the specs on this order?”

    TEACHER:

…must stand above all students, yet be on their level
… must be able to do 180 things not connected with the subject being taught
… must run on coffee, coke and leftovers,
… must communicate vital knowledge to all students daily and be right most of the time
… must have more time for others than for herself/himself
… must have a smile that can endure through pay cuts, problematic children, and worried parents
… must go on teaching when parents question every move and others are not supportive
… must have 6 pair of hands.

“Six pair of hands, ” said the angel, “that’s impossible”
“Well, ” said the Lord, ” it is not the hands that are the problem. It is the three pairs of eyes that are presenting the most difficulty!”

The angel looked incredulous, ” Three pairs of eyes…on a standard model?”

The Lord nodded His head, ” One pair can see a student for what he is and not what others have labeled him as. Another pair of eyes is in the back of the teacher’s head to see what should not be seen, but what must be known. The eyes in the front are only to look at the child as he/she ‘acts out’ in order to reflect, ” I understand and I still believe in you”,
without so much as saying a word to the child.”

“Lord, ” said the angel, ” this is a very large project and I think
you should work on it tomorrow”.

“I can’t,” said the Lord, ” for I have come very close to creating something much like Myself. I have one that comes to work when he/she is sick…..teaches a class of children that do not want to learn….has a special place in his/her heart for children who are not his/her own…..understands the struggles of those who have difficulty….never takes the students for granted…”

The angel looked closely at the model the Lord was creating.
“It is too soft-hearted, ” said the angel.

“Yes,” said the Lord, ” but also tough, You can not imagine what this teacher can endure or do, if necessary”.

“Can this teacher think?” asked the angel.

“Not only think,” said the Lord,. “but reason and compromise.”

The angel came closer to have a better look at the model and ran his finger
    over the teacher’s cheek.

“Well, Lord, ” said the angel, your job looks fine but there is a leak. I told you that you were putting too much into this model.
You can not imagine the stress that will be placed upon the teacher.”

The Lord moved in closer and lifted the drop of moisture from the teacher’s cheek.
It shone and glistened in the light.

“It is not a leak,” He said, “It is a tear.”

“A tear? What is that?” asked the angel, “What is a tear for?”

The Lord replied with great thought, ” It is for the joy and pride of seeing a child accomplish even the smallest task. It is for the loneliness of children who have a hard time to fit in and it is for compassion for the feelings of their parents. It comes from the pain of not being able to reach some children and the disappointment those children feel in themselves. It comes often when a teacher has been with a class for a year and must say good-bye to those students
and get ready to welcome a new class.”

“My, ” said the angel, ” The tear thing is a great idea…You are a genius!!”
The Lord looked somber, “I didn’t put it there.”

  35. The most admired teacher
Would be caring, kind and smart.

    She’d always have her students’
    Best interests in her heart.

She’d help us love to learn.
    Her lessons would be clear.

    She’d motivate with praise,
    And always be sincere.

  36. “One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.” — Carl Jung
Teachers play a vital role on everybody’s lives. They help us a lot to learn and they deserve respect from us! good luck Krystal

  40. I dreamed I stood in a studio
    And watched two sculptors there,
The clay they used was a young child’s mind
And they fashioned it with care.

    One was a teacher:
    the tools she used were books and music and art;
    One was a parent
With a guiding hand and gentle loving heart.

And when at last their work was done,
They were proud of what they had wrought.
For the things they had worked into the child

You are a great inspiration; thanks for all you do for my family.
